What is Joint Mobilisation?

Joint mobilisation is a skilled passive movement technique applied to spinal or peripheral joints to restore optimal range of motion, reduce pain and improve function. It differs from manipulation in that it uses slower, controlled rhythmic movements rather than a thrust.

Our physiotherapists are trained in Maitland, Mulligan and other recognised joint mobilisation frameworks. Mobilisation is graded according to your pain levels and tissue response — making it suitable for a wide range of patients from acute injury to chronic stiffness.

Conditions We Treat

  • Post-surgical joint stiffness (hip, knee, shoulder)
  • Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis)
  • Cervical and lumbar facet joint dysfunction
  • Sacroiliac joint pain
  • Ankle stiffness following sprain or fracture
  • Wrist and elbow joint restriction
  • Osteoarthritis-related stiffness
  • Sports injuries with restricted movement

Techniques Used

  • Maitland joint mobilisation grades I–IV
  • Mulligan mobilisation with movement (MWM)
  • Sustained natural apophyseal glides (SNAGs)
  • Accessory joint gliding techniques
  • Combined mobilisation and active exercise
  • Post-mobilisation strengthening
